3 weeks 2 days!

Babies are doing great. Home Health visited Monday and the babies weights are:

Cora - 5#'s 12 oz
Cameron - 5#'s 10 oz
Carter - 5#'s 6 oz

They are gaining about an ounce and 1/2 a day! They are taking 75 cc's at every feeding and today we are trying the Playtex Drop in bottle and as they have outgrown the Hospital bottle & nipple (only holds 75 cc's)!!

As Christmas approaches, cards are mailed, gifts are wrapped, baking is complete, I pause and admire the twinkle in Collin's eye with anticipation of Santa's visit, the 3 beautiful healthy babies, the supportive husband that God has given me and I quickly am reminded through sleepy eyes, lack of shower, non brushed teeth for the 2nd day in a row and the smell of baby poop ......... Yes, I am blessed. Truely, blessed.

Merry Christmas to each and all of you. Lots of pictures to follow in the next week!

Much Love,
Kim

Day 12 & 13

Our family is home.....complete and healthy. Here are pictures from our trip home. The circus adventure through the hospital turned a few heads as they loaded the babes up in the wagon to get them to the car. Carter went with us to ensue his sisters came home safely. Collin went to a movie with his favorite girls and now can proudly do the "Happy Feet" dance.

Our first night home last night was great! It was an adventure! Chris & I did fine, if I do say so myself. They are eating on the same schedule, every 3 hours. Both girls came home on Zantac for Reflux and are on a special formula that is hypoallergenic (EXPENSIVE, YIKES!).
Our night time feedings are a little trial and error but both Chris & I get up, each of us take one baby and feed. The first babe done, ends up with the other burping while the babe finishes up their bottle and the free hands get the third baby and feed. We can feed all three, diaper in 45 minutes. Not too bad for a couple of rookies. Chris slept in this morning and then I napped this afternoon, ready for night two!
So far, the reflux is under control and all sleep well between feedings and do not have any painful cries or spitups.

I have to say that although our time in the hospital was the LONGEST of my life, St. Lukes of Kansas City was an amazing hospital with more amazing staff. Special thanks to all of the nurses but a special few (Theresa, Lindsey, John, Diana, Daryn & Carol) who really took time with our kiddos and made a special mark on our heart.

Thank you all for our friends and family that have prayed with us, cried with us, visited, brought gifts, diapers, formula, dinner, and cold beer! You are all invaluable in our lives and Chris & I are so very blessed to have you all in our lives.

It is the most amazing miracle to have all of us home. It is hard to belive that less than one year ago we were pursuing adoption. Either path would have completed our family and we are so grateful to have our prayers answered.
I will get pictures of the babies together tomorrow and post as they will be 2 weeks old!

Much love to all.

Yesterday was a little improvement for the girls. They are up to eating about 60% of their feedings. Cameron during the day did a little better than Cora did.

THEN, last night, Cora pulled out her feeding tube and has 4 FULL feeds. If she continues, we are on the right track!.

12/5 Update & new pictures from today

Carter went to the hospital today with us to talk some sense into the "Divas". Carter also had a big day as he had his very first ped's appointment. He is a whopping 4lbs 3 oz and growing strong. He ate a total of 303 cc's today which continues to rise daily. He also had his first bath tonight which was not a big hit but he was certainly ready for his bottle when we finished!

Cameron & Cora's update. While we were at the hosptial both girls ate close to 30 cc's and the balance (17cc's by the feeding tube). Tonight they have both lost weight again. Cameron lost almost 2 ounces and Cora lost 1 1/2 ounces. Sounds like we may change their formula tomorrow, perhaps try thickening and a higher calorie.

I had read that the longest days of your lives are the time they are in the hospital without you. They truely are the longest days of our lives. When you live, feed to feed, every three hours, time seems to tick very slowly. Progress is what we need. Prayers is what we need more of. We are anxiously awaiting their "light bulb" to come on very soon. Our family is very incomplete without them home and mommies heart hurts a lot.

12/4 Update

Carter is doing great at home. Collin decided that Carter needed a bedtime story too.

Cora lost 20 grams and Cameron lost 10 grams. Their feeding continues to be a struggle. They are taking about 1/2 by mouth and the rest by feeding tube. They are showing signs of acid refulx so they started Zantac last night. Should be 3-4 days for us to see if it is going to help them.

12/3 Update

Carter came home last night and is doing great! He ate like a champ and slept great. He is weighing at a whopping 4'2oz today.

The girls are struggling a bit with their eating and showing no signs of giving up their feeding tube. They take about 15 cc's by mouth and then decide they prefer to have their rest of their feeding the "easy way". However, the docs tell us it can be any day that the "light bulb" comes on. The girls weighted 4.6 (cameron) and 4.9(cora) tonight!

The days have become a little longer with trips to hospital to see the girls twice a day! Pray they come home soon!

Love to all!

Countdown......

Babies continue to grow. I continue stretch. The house continues to fill with 3 of everything...... we have a doc appt on Tuesday for growth ultrasound, NST test & office check....all things pending............4 days until our BIG day. I feel like crap, look like crap, but apparently, they love their hot tub. Guess what kiddos........the lease is up and we will be closed for renovations!

We are scheduled for Shawnee Mission Medical Center on Thursday, November 30th at 11:00 a.m. I should be released on Monday to come home and the babies within 7-10 days. Please continue your prayers for healthy, happy, amazing little ones and an uneventful C - Section. We look forward to seeing all of you very soon! A

A few Doctor reminders and rules............................All basic new baby rules apply (wash, wash, wash), but a few more precautions are needed with our preemies!!

Although, we have been blessed to carry 35 weeks (on Thursday), the babies will still be considered preemies their first 18 months and be very suseptible to germs and upper respiratory problems.

Also, remember it is RSV season and the RSV virus will put preemie babies in the hospital fighting for every breath. If you or my favorite kiddo's have been around anyone with a stuffy nose or other virus, please reconsider your visit for 7-10 days during this yucky RSV season. Lastly, if you are a smoker, this is highly dangerous to the babies premature lungs and we are asking that no one smoke during their visit. If you choose to smoke outside, we are asking that you change clothes upon returning inside.

Thanks and much love to all!!
